My Journey From Bump to Baby

As many of you have read in my posts, my journey to baby #2 was not an easy one. When First Response asked to interview me to dig deeper into my story, as part of the “This is My Journey” campaign with Today’s Parent, I knew it would bring out a lot of emotions. Everyday I am so grateful for baby Noa and it was all worth it looking back. This campaign is intended to share women’s unique pregnancy journeys to help provide support to other women and families to know they’re not alone. My first pregnancy was so much different than my second, which I could never have been prepared for, so wanted to share my story to help others. I know that there are so many mothers out there who can relate to what I’ve gone through, including secondary infertility and multiple miscarriages, so I hope that this interview can help others keep the faith when trying for a baby too.

I’ll be honest - at first, I was nervous about sharing this with all of you because this is a story that is often hard for me to tell without shedding tears. This video is as real as it gets for me.

Gestational Diabetes

I’m four months postpartum and while watching this interview, it became very clear to me that I still have a lot of healing to do today. It was supposed to be an interview on my experience with Gestational Diabetes, but once I got talking it was difficult for me to not tell my whole story. Having gestational diabetes was just one complication I faced; I still remember being in disbelief when I was told I failed the Glucose test. I was healthy and thought this could never happen to me. I was in so much shock that I demanded a retest, but quickly learned that this was not my fault and that Gestational Diabetes was a result of many factors, including how a hormone produced by my placenta was preventing my body from using insulin effectively. Needless to say, tracking all the food I ate and having to prick myself four times a day was still not fun.

Positive Vibes Only

Thinking about all of the ups and downs still makes my heart heavy. I’m sure like every woman out there, I still remember the day I took the FIRST RESPONSE™ Early Result Pregnancy Test and it tested positive. Fortunately, it can detect the pregnancy hormone 6 days sooner than my missed period and when you’re trying for a baby, you just want to know as soon as possible!

First Response has supported millions of women in their pregnancy journeys; whether it is their Ovulation Tests or their Prenatal Multivitamin Gummies, women can trust their products every step of the way.

For me, it gave me extra reassurance knowing that the FIRST RESPONSE Early Result Pregnancy Test was also 99% accurate at detecting typical pregnancy hormone levels from the day of a woman’s expected period. So when those two pink lines showed up after testing a second time, I cried. I cried a lot. I was so happy, yet so scared at the same time. Scared that I would miscarry again. Scared that something would go wrong. The anxiety didn’t stop.

I went through 39 weeks feeling a mix of pure joy and paranoia. It was insanity really. From an elevated nuchal test, a painful amniocentesis and then gestational diabetes – it was a tough pregnancy to say the least.  Telling my story to the people of Today’s Parent was actually therapeutic. I know I have a lot more healing to do, but I’m grateful to have the support of so many people, including most of you reading this post right now.

If you haven’t viewed the full interview, you can watch it here. Please don’t mind the tears! Thank you everyone for continuing to follow my journey.

Love,

Trisha xoxo
