Our Favourite Outdoor Summer Adventures with Kids in Toronto (That Won’t Always Break the Bank!)
If your kids are anything like mine, they need to get outside in the summer. And let’s be honest - we parents need it too! Whether it’s a full day of fun or a simple afternoon outing, I’ve rounded up some of our family’s go-to outdoor adventures in Toronto. Some cost a little, some are totally free, but all of them are worth it for the memories you’ll make!
Here’s what’s on our summer list this year:
Worth-the-Splurge Fun
Wet ‘n’ Wild Toronto 🌊
This is always at the top of our list. The water slides, wave pool, and lazy river can easily keep kids happy all day. We usually pack snacks and lots of water to make the most of it. (And yes, I’m the mom who always checks for discount codes online before we go!)Centreville Amusement Park & Centre Island 🎡
I don’t know who loves Centre Island more - me or the kids. The ferry ride itself feels like a little getaway, and once you’re there, there’s so much to explore. Centreville is perfect if your little ones love gentle rides and petting farm animals. But honestly, even just wandering the island, playing on the beach, or picnicking under the trees makes for a magical day.Hop-On Hop-Off Bus: Be a Tourist in Your Own City 🚌
One of the most fun things we’ve done is hop on one of those double-decker buses and see Toronto through fresh eyes. The kids get such a kick out of sitting on the top deck! We hop off when we see something interesting, grab a snack, and just enjoy the adventure.
Budget-Friendly Adventures We Love
Bike to Tommy Thompson Park 🚲
This is one of our favourites when we want to slow down and enjoy the city’s quieter spots. The ride is fun (especially if you’ve got a kiddo who loves spotting wildlife) and reaching the lighthouse at the end feels like a little victory.Greenwood Farmers Market 🍅
My kids love this one! They get to sample fresh berries or baked treats, and I love supporting local farmers. It’s such a nice way to spend a morning, and we always leave with something tasty for our picnic later.Community Pools - Monarch is Our Top Pick 🏊♀️
Toronto’s outdoor pools are such a summer lifesaver, and they’re free! We’re big fans of Monarch Park’s pool because of the waterslide. If you haven’t been yet, it’s definitely worth checking out (just try to go early or during off-peak hours!).Picnic + Play at Trinity Bellwoods 🧺
Some of our best summer days have been the simplest. We bring our own food, a blanket, and let the kids run around or play at the playground. There’s tons of space, and the vibe is always so relaxed. If we’re lucky, we spot a dog parade or some live music!
Quick Tips for a Smooth Day Out ☀️
Pack way more water than you think you’ll need.
Sunscreen everything, especially those little shoulders and noses.
Don’t forget hats and snacks (because the “I’m hungry” hits hard and fast!).
At the end of the day, the best part of summer is the time we spend together!
Toronto has so many amazing outdoor spots, and there’s always something new to discover. I hope this list gives you a little inspiration to get out, explore, and soak up every sunny moment with your kids this season.
If you try any of these, I’d love to hear about it - leave a comment or send me a message on Instagram!
Here’s to a summer full of fun, fresh air, and happy (tired!) kids. 💛
With love,
Trisha xo
