A Birthday Reflection: Life Lessons From Me To You

Every year on my birthday, I try to write a little list. Not of goals or resolutions - just lessons and reminders. Quiet truths that have met me at different points along the way.

Some came easily. Some came the hard way. All of them are still teaching me something.

So in honour of another trip around the sun, here are 40 lessons I’m carrying with me, and maybe, one or two will meet you where you are, too :)

40 Life Lessons I’ve Learned in 40+ Years

  1. Ditch the ‘all or nothing’ mindset. Find harmony in balance.

  2. Physical fitness is key, but your mental fitness is most important.

  3. Set boundaries, even with those closest to you.

  4. Forgive yourself. Move forward with increased awareness and growth.

  5. Marriage is more fun if you maintain your individuality. Having your own space to do what you love makes coming back together even more special.

  6. It’s alright to let go of what weighs you down. You deserve to live a life free from regrets and burdens, and the first step towards that is letting go.

  7. True fitness goes beyond visual. Celebrate what your body can do rather than how it appears.

  8. It’s normal to question yourself, no matter where you are in life.

  9. What works for others might not always work for you. Trust the process and listen to your body; it will always guide you to what’s best for you.

  10. Realizing that, sometimes, the most fulfilling life is one centred around a healthy family, genuine connections, and the peace that comes from embracing what truly matters.

  11. I’m exactly where I need to be, even if it’s not where I expected. I’m learning and growing right here, right now.

  12. Growing older is a privilege. I learned to embrace the wisdom and experience that comes with age.

  13. You’re never too old to learn. Growth happens at every stage of life - stay curious, keep learning, and embrace the journey.

  14. I’ve learned to embrace the changes in my body rather than fight them. Instead of chasing what worked in my 20s, I focus on what makes me feel strong and energized now.

  15. Say “No” without guilt. It’s okay to set boundaries and say no to things that don’t serve you.

  16. Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more.

  17. Adapt to change and you’ll find strength, growth, and new opportunities in your flexibility.

  18. With age comes confidence. Every year, step into your power, knowing who you are and what you bring to the table in every aspect of life.

  19. I’ve realized it’s not just about intense workouts. A consistent, moderate approach helps your body thrive long-term.

  20. Make it a priority to work out with your kids; it’s not about perfection but teaching them to love fitness and grow stronger for life.

  21. Resisting the urge to fix everything helps children grow into capable, self-reliant individuals.

  22. Every healthy decision you make is an investment in yourself. Don’t wait for Monday, next month, or the “perfect” time to start.

  23. Make room for that solitude. In those quiet moments, you'll reconnect with the energy you need to show up fully for everyone else.

  24. Motherhood has taught me that time really does move fast. It’s easy to focus on what’s next, but the true value is cherishing everyday moments, because they pass before you know it.

  25. True health isn’t about pushing harder; it’s about listening to what your body needs.

  26. Everything you want is already yours; it’s about recognizing your worth and allowing it to flow into your life.

  27. Fitness isn’t about punishment; it’s a celebration of what your body can do.

  28. Comparison is the thief of joy. Focus on your own journey

  29. It’s okay to outgrow people, places, or situations that no longer align with your values.

  30. Self-care isn’t a luxury - it’s a way to honour yourself and show up fully for the life you deserve.

  31. Taking time to rest and recharge is just as important as working hard.

  32. Your daily habits are the foundation of your health; small, consistent choices lead to a vibrant life.

  33. Your energy is your most valuable currency - spend it wisely on people, passions, and priorities that truly matter.

  34. It doesn’t matter where I am…home is where my family is.

  35. Your thoughts are like a wishlist for the universe - your thoughts become things.

  36. I’ve learned that being quiet doesn’t mean being overlooked.

  37. Growth happens when you trust what’s ahead more than what you left behind.

  38. Take the trip. Time won’t wait…and neither should you.

  39. The little girl you once were would be so proud of the woman you’ve become.

  40. Before 40, you’re preparing. After 40, you’re thriving.

Wishing all the June babies the happiest birthday ever!

Every year brings something unexpected. I don’t know what this next one will hold, but I know I’m bringing these lessons with me.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for being part of my journey 🫡

And if it’s your birthday month too, here’s to another year of becoming!!

With love,

Trisha xo
