How To Love Your Partner Better: The ‘Small Things Checklist’
Most relationships don’t break because of one big thing. They drift because of a thousand tiny moments that don’t get noticed.
So for Valentine’s, here’s a different kind of gift: a checklist of small things that keep love close, especially in busy seasons.
1) Be specific with appreciation
Instead of “thanks,” try:
“Thank you for handling bedtime. I felt supported.”
“I noticed you filled my gas tank. That meant a lot.”
Specific appreciation lands deeper.
2) Stop saving kindness for “when life calms down”
Life doesn’t calm down. Do the kindness now:
a gentle tone
a longer hug
a quick “I’m on your team”
3) Ask better questions
Try one tonight:
“What’s been heavy on you lately?”
“What do you need more of from me this week?”
“How can I make tomorrow easier for you?”
4) Protect 10 minutes of undistracted time
Not a full date night. Just 10 minutes. Eye contact + presence changes everything.
5) Repair faster
If you snapped, don’t let it sit. “Hey, I was overwhelmed earlier. I’m sorry. Can we reset?”
