Some getaways are relaxing… and some just click in every way. Our recent stay at Skipping Rock Cottages, a beautiful family-friendly cottage near Toronto, was absolutely the latter.
We came with three other families, and from the moment we arrived it was clear this place was designed with both comfort and connection in mind - without ever feeling crowded.
Plenty of Space for Everyone (and Then Some)
One of the best things about Skipping Rock Cottages was the amount of space. With two cottages on the property (7 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, separated into a main cabin and loft), it was the perfect setup for our multi-family stay.
The kids were over the moon having their own cottage; they felt independent, grown-up, and so proud of their space. Meanwhile, the adults enjoyed the main cottage to ourselves, which meant real conversations, relaxed meals, and some much-needed adult time.
It struck that rare balance between togetherness and privacy that makes a group getaway feel effortless.

Cold plunges in the lake—invigorating and strangely addictive
Hot tub evenings, with the lake shimmering in the sunset
Hikes right from the property, perfect for a family stroll or solo escape
Little bunnies hopping around the grounds—an unexpected delight for the kids
Being surrounded by nature, while still having all the comforts we needed, made this group cottage getaway in Ontario feel restorative and magical. I almost forgot to mention the kids’ treehouse—it was the perfect little clubhouse where they could hang out and let their imaginations run wild! The kids also just enjoyed playing outside in the backyard and playing on the swings together!
Views, Games, and Thoughtful Details
The views of the lake are calming and gorgeous from every angle. Coffee on the deck in the morning? Absolute bliss. Sunsets in the evening? Even better.
Inside, the games room and sauna were a hit for both kids and adults, adding a little mini-retreat vibe. But what really impressed us was how thoughtfully equipped everything was—from kitchen essentials to small details you don’t usually expect.
No last-minute trips into town, no forgetting things—it was all taken care of. That level of detail made the stay effortless and relaxing.
