8 Things I Wish I Knew Before Leaving My Corporate Job

This morning it felt so good to walk Harper to school. I wasn’t always able to this when I was working my 9-5. I can’t believe it has been about a year since I officially signed the papers to leave my corporate job and take the dive into entrepreneurship full-time. Do I have any regrets? No!

But here are 8 things I kinda wish I knew before taking the leap.

9-5 to 24/7

You work a lot more hours than you probably did before. But this time it’s for you and it just feels a bit different (even when you’re tired). It’s important to set boundaries so that you can also enjoy some much-deserved downtimes.

Call A Friend

It gets super lonely at times and you need to put yourself out there to connect with others. Attend events. Call a friend. Set up coffee dates. Gone are the days when you could roam your office and stop at the printer for a chit chat!

Be Your #1 Fan

You have to believe in yourself more than anyone else in the world. Be prepared to show that confidence when someone asks you “what do you do?”. Be your own cheerleader and create your own self-hype! Energy never lies!

Health is Wealth

Your health is your biggest asset so always make it a priority no matter what. There will be some long days and some busy days, but committing to health is nonnegotiable. Schedule in a workout, a mediation, and set an alarm at night to remind you to disconnect from your phone or computer.

Your Superpower is YOU

You’re going to feel imposter syndrome. Get over it because you’re amazing. No one is you and that is your power!

Do What You Gotta Do

Your friends and family might not fully get what you do, but do it anyways. Your real peeps will support you no matter what. Just keep doing what you gotta do!

Take Action

If you’re wanting to launch something or make a big announcement waiting for the PERFECT TIME may never happen, so just do it! You will learn as you go and your first time might not be your best, but it’s all about execution. Perfect isn’t real, but action is. Talk the talk and walk the walk … even if it’s not perfect.

Stop Waiting

You need to ask for what you want and go after what you want. Periodt.
