Tips to Spring Clean Your Health

We just featured these tips on the LOT801 blog, but wanted to make sure I shared it here too!

Spring is in the air and with the new season it makes for a good time to do a little spring cleaning … and I’m not just talking about inside your household! This post is dedicated entirely to quick and simple tips to help you clean up your habits to support a healthier and happier lifestyle! By answering these three common questions, you will have a better idea of how to get your ‘spring cleaning’ well on its way.

1. What is the best nutrition plan to follow?

There’s paleo, vegan, low-carb, high-fat and the list goes on. So what’s the best one? In my opinion, there is not one best diet because every person is different and each dietary protocol has its pros and cons. Plus, something that worked great for one mother might not work as well for you. Ultimately it’s finding a nutrition routine that suits your individuality and of course, one that includes foods you will actually eat and enjoy. I would also recommend seeking advice from a nutritionist or accredited dietician to help you determine a plan that would work best for you.

2. What do I do to lose my tummy?

First and foremost, before starting any activity book an appointment with a pelvic floor physiotherapist who can give you a full detailed assessment of your pelvic floor and the strength of your core. Often diastasis recti, which is a separation in your abdominal wall during pregnancy, can cause the appearance of a “belly bulge” or “pooch”. Seeing a physiotherapist is your first step. I personally don’t believe in spot reduction and don’t encourage doing a million ab exercises a day . I believe that the best thing to do is to follow a consistent full-body workout routine that is supported with a good eating plan. Drinking water (lots of it) helps a lot too!

3. What is the fastest way to get fit?

Sadly mamas, there is no magic pill or miracle workout, but just good ol’ fashion hard work and commitment. However, I will say that there are five moves that I swear by that you can do at home and can give you the best bang for your buck!

The Kettlebell Swing
Invest in a kettlebell and you can get an incredible workout in the comfort of your own home. The swing is a great cardiovascular move and hits all of your body parts at the same time. Ain’t no thing, but a kettlebell swing!

The Burpee
I know they aren’t fun, but they work. You’re guaranteed a killer sweat and your whole body will benefit

The Squat
This is not only the best booty-building move in the business, but it’s a compound exercise that recruits all your muscle groups. If you want to challenge yourself, make it a jump squat and feel the burn!

Step Ups
This move is also great for working your lower body and you can use your couch or sturdy chair as a prop to step up onto. It looks a lot easier than it is, but after 15 reps for each leg you will definitely feel it.

The Push-Up
Target all of your upper body with the push-up, as well as your core. If you find it too hard you can modify by doing the push up with your knees on the ground. The more you do this move, the better you’ll get at it and you will see a difference in your body as a result.

I hope that these questions helped steer you in the right direction to cleaning up your health and getting you back on track to achieving your fitness goals this spring season! Be sure to check out our latest 4-Week Kick-Start Challenge to help get you on the way.
