5 Tips for Tween-Friendly Twinning

I’ve been twinning with Harper since she was a toddler and now she’s almost nine (going on 19). Tell me, is she too old to still match with mommy? I’ll be honest, I am struggling to let go. I’m just not ready! With that said, I thought I would put together a list of tips to help you continue to comfortably twin with your tween!

Don’t Hate, Coordinate!

There are so many retailers now that allow you to grab outfits that complement each other without going full fledged matching. Zara, for example, typically puts out similar colours in the kids section as the women’s section each season, so that you coordinate with ease.

You Go Girl!

Activewear has become easier to ‘match’ without matching your not-so-little one. I always suggest getting one similar bolder colour and mixing and matching it with white or black. I just recently discovered the brand Athleta, although it was founded back in ‘98 and recently acquired by Gap. They are a new fave because I love that their mission focuses on empowering women and girls. The collection is designed for performance and as you know, my Harper is more active than I am. If you creep their site you’ll find it super simple to find coordinating outfits for you and your young lady!

You’re the One-Sie for Me

There’s no shame in the game when it comes to matching rompers! No matter how old you are, onesies will never get old IMO. They are always so cute (and cozy), so everyone wins. We love the Smash + Tess rompers, but we paired them with Docs to give the look a little edge.

Double the Denim, Double the Love

Denim is always a good idea. You can still essentially “match” in jeans - regardless of the wash. You just can’t go wrong with jeans and a classic white tee. It’s a look that allows you to “match” without matching!

Take a Walk on The Wild Side

Let’s be honest, leopard print is never going out of style! It’s great because you can almost always find this print in every store, which makes ‘twinning’ seamless. You don’t have to go over the top with the leopard, but including the print in your outfit allows you to still get away with twinning with your tween without 100% matching!
