5 Simple Ways to Stay Healthy and Balanced This Holiday Season
December is here, and with it comes the season of celebrations, gift-giving, and indulgent meals. While it’s a magical time of the year, it can also be overwhelming—especially when it comes to staying on top of your health and wellness goals. As a mom, a health and fitness enthusiast, and someone who’s experienced the chaos of the holiday season, I know how hard it can be to put yourself first!
Taking care of yourself during the holidays doesn’t mean missing out on the fun. It’s about small, intentional actions that help you stay energized, balanced, and present for the people you love. So, here are five simple ways to prioritize your health and wellness this December.
Move Daily (Even if it’s just 10 minutes!)
The holiday hustle often pushes workouts to the bottom of the list, but even 10 minutes can make a difference. I love going for a brisk walk with the family right after breakfast or jumping on my peloton for a 20 minute ride. Movement boosts your energy and helps manage holiday stress.
Pro Tip: Schedule your movement in the morning before the day gets away from you!
Say “Yes” to Rest
With late-night parties, endless to-dos, and family gatherings, rest can feel like a luxury. But giving yourself permission to slow down and sleep well is essential for your overall health. On the other hand, don’t say “yes” to things when you really mean “no”. Setting those boundaries to honour your rest is totally okay!
Mindful Indulgence
Let’s be real: holiday treats are part of the joy of December! Filipino family parties do not disappoint when it comes to holiday dishes. Instead of restricting yourself, focus on savouring every bite. Enjoy your favourite foods guilt-free, but also remember to nourish your body with balanced meals in between the indulgences.
Try This: Add colourful veggies to your holiday plate for a pop of nutrition and balance.
Hydration is Key
Between the holiday cocktails and cozy hot chocolates, it’s easy to forget good old water. Staying hydrated helps with digestion, energy levels, and can even keep you from reaching for that extra cocktail that you probably don’t need. Keep a water bottle handy throughout the day, and make it festive by infusing it with seasonal fruits like orange slices or cranberries.
Carve Out “Me Time”
December can feel like it’s all about everyone else. Schedule small pockets of time for yourself—whether it’s a quiet morning walk, a workout session, or simply sitting down with a hot cup of tea. Recharging your own battery helps you show up better for others. I will definitely be booking some in some “me time” at Othership. This season is about giving, joy, and connection—but don’t forget to give yourself the gift of care. By focusing on these small, manageable habits, you’ll not only survive December, but thrive through it.
