What's Hot ... What's Not in Health & Fitness
We always try and keep up to date with all the trends happening in health and fitness, but sometimes the best workouts can be done at home with your own body weight.
Here is what's on our top 5 "hot-in-health" list:
1. Aerial Fitness - why not change it up by trying a fitness or yoga class being suspended in the air? It's fun and it sure isn't easy!
2. Obstacle Course Fitness - now this isn't for the faint of heart. These obstacle course sessions are popping up everywhere and can really test your fitness.
3. Home Workouts - everything old is new again. Exercise videos were the thing for our moms and now you are seeing that with overly busy schedules, more and more women are taking their training indoors. Nothing beats the comfort of your own home! HIIT and Tabata workouts are the new craze and rightfully so!
4. Trampoline Workouts - you thought it was just for your kids? Well now you are seeing people really take their fitness up a notch by including trampoline training into their routine. It is a lot harder than it looks!
5. The Fit Bit - This fitness product is more than just fashion ... it helps you stay motivated and improves your health by tracking your activity, exercise, food, weight and sleep.
What's NOT-SO-HOT?
1. Olympic Weight-LIfting for the not-so-Olympian - a lot of people are throwing themselves into workouts they just aren't trained to do. Olympic weight lifting is not just for the average joe and not just any trainer off the street can teach you proper technique and form. Leave these type of training for the pros and avoid yourself some long-term injury.
2. Calorie Counting - as a mother, we just don't have time to sit there and count calories and read a million labels. Of course it's great to have a good sense of what you are putting in your body and how much ... just don't get bogged down with all the details all the time. Think balanced, healthy meals and an active lifestyle :)
3. Depletion Diets - any diet that has you starving throughout the day and surviving off only a few measly snacks can't be healthy. Steer clear of diets/programs that boost a big weight loss in a short period of time with no exercise required. Healthy weight loss that is sustained over time involves balanced eating and an active lifestyle.
