7 Life Lessons My Mini Has Taught Me

Every day I try and be the best mom and role model to this little girl. She watches my every move and learns from the things I do. But I realize more and more that she's actually the one teaching me. Motherhood has changed me in so many incredible ways! Here are 7 things she has taught me and I'm a better person because of it!

1.  Tell the Truth ... Always.

A child will always speak their mind with no filter whatsoever. Always speak up, say how you feel and stand up for what you believe in. “Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” ~ Dr Seuss

2. Be Fearless.

Kids are risk takers. They don't fear judgement or the unknown like we do as adults. Life is too short, we need to take more chances!

3. Listen to Your Gut.

Children are wildly intuitive - they just KNOW. As we get older, a lot of things tend to cloud our judgement and we lose that connection with our inner knowing. Our intuition is the best guide we can ask for.

4. Always Forgive.

My mini can be mad at me one moment and then turn around and want to play a game with me the next. She can easily forget what made her upset. I used to hold a lot of grudges, but it just isn't worth it and no one wins. So always (always) forgive.

5.  Live in the Moment.

It's easy for me to get caught up multi-tasking (prepping dinner while replying to emails), but I can admire that every child simply wants to just have fun in this very moment. They aren't thinking about yesterday or stressing about tomorrow. All that matters is right now. As Eckhart Tolle says, "Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.”

6. Be Creative.

A child's imagination is a beautiful thing and hearing how my daughter expresses herself motivates me to get out of my comfort zone and think big. We are never too old to go after our dreams!

7. Love, Love and More Love.

My daughter has taught me to give without expectation and to love with an open heart. As adults we can get caught up being negative and worrying about what we don't have. Becoming a mother is the biggest reminder to simply be thankful for everything I do have.

I hope this post is a gentle reminder to think about the amazing things are little people are teaching us on the daily ... I can't wait to see what life lessons I'll learn when she hits her teenage years! Yikes.
