10 Reasons To Visit Prince Edward Island
We have travelled a lot as a family this year, but there was something incredibly magical about our recent getaway to Prince Edward Island! We had heard so many good things about PEI, but it wasn’t until we experienced it for ourselves that we realized why so many people fall absolutely in love with this small Canadian island! We spent most of our days in Charlottetown, PEI’s capital, which is located on the south shore of the island and now wishing we had more time to really take in the island life! Here are 10 reasons why you need to visit Prince Edward Island:
Quick & Easy Flight
With the new airline options available, such as Swoop Airlines, we were able to get a very affordable and convenient flight. It was just over 2 hours, which was just enough time to watch a good movie on the plane with the fam!
The Food
There is just so much good food to be had on the island - especially fresh seafood! We enjoyed oysters daily and didn’t hesitate to enjoy PEI’s famous potatoes. We loved Salt & Sol Restaurant and enjoyed some yummy bites at the Floating Docks Restaurants (get the lobster poutine)! And the trip to PEI isn’t complete if you don’t enjoy some Cow’s ice cream too!
The People
We received such a warm welcome from the people of PEI - we would walk the streets and everyone would wave hello or say good morning!
Charlottetown
The provincial capital offers so much charm, fun and festivals. We were lucky enough to be there during Art In The Open, which brings contemporary artworks into the beautiful outdoor spaces across Downtown Charlottetown. Do not miss the March of the Crows!
The Island Life is The Best Life
There is such a stress-free vibe about PEI. Everyone seems to be on island time and no one is in a rush to get anywhere. It was so nice to feel this change of pace, especially coming from the city!
You Can Get Active Outdoors
There are so many outdoor activities for the entire family! Everything from hiking and biking - you will definitely get in your movement. We rented bikes and enjoy riding around the whole island stopping at various playgrounds along the way! Be sure to check out the Jumpstart Playground in Victoria Park!
The Streets Come Alive With Music
There was so much good energy in the streets of Charlottetown. There was a live band playing at the Gallery House and Cafe on the weekends and you would always hear music bumping on Vic Row. Head there after dinner to enjoy a drink and take in the vibrant night life!
Picturesque Lighthouses
There is not much to say here, but get your camera ready!
The Beaches
The scenic beaches of PEI are also picture-worthy and unique with their rusty red coloured sand! We enjoyed the day at Brackley Beach and couldn’t resist eating at Richard’s Seafood at Covehead Wharf. The line is long, but it was worth the wait. Definitely get the lobster roll and lobster sandwich!
The Serene Coastal Drives
If you have the time, pack a lunch and enjoy the ride. But I’m sure you’ll definitely be stopping to take tons of photos!
